Somatic Intervention

Whether you're struggling with chronic stress, emotional blockages, or past traumas that impact your daily life, Somatic Therapy can help you find relief. Somatic interventions are therapeutic approaches that utilize the body in the healing process. These modalities acknowledge that the body and the mind are tightly linked and every emotion/traumatic memory/positive experience has a physical feeling and posture matched with it that we can utilize in therapy. Commonly we experience this concept as being "worried sick," having "butterflies," having a "gut feeling," feeling "tense," being "full" of love, feeling "scared stiff," etc. With somatic interventions we are able to use the body as a tool for gathering information and building self-awareness, processing traumatic and stressful experiences, and creating and enhancing positive feelings in the body (i.e. relaxation, calmness, joy, etc.). What this can look like in practice is combining traditional talk therapy with movement, intentional focus on physical sensations, guided meditations and body scans, and physical feedback. Somatic interventions are useful in building distress tolerance, processing traumatic experiences and memories, creating coping skills, practicing mindfulness, and developing a deeper sense of self.
